Cumbria based Tulchan Textiles are a UK fashion brand. Found via their website and at House of Fraser. They also have retail outlets in Cumbria. Located in the Lake District town of Kirby Lonsdale. They have been around for over 30 years.
The fashion photography is for their newly designed website. And extra fashion lifestyle photography for the mail order catalogue. It reflected the rebranding. Having been through a big re-vamp, they are now attracting a younger market, as well as still appealing to their established core older customers. There is always a fine balancing act with mature fashion brands opening up to a younger market. But Tulchan has got it spot on. The new SS16 collection is perfect. A Boden for the 40 plus age. Full of bold prints, rich colors, great quality, flattering cuts, and appealing designs. But also plenty of fashion photography of classic womenswear.
Model Casting for Tulchan Textiles
The photography needed to reflect spirit. Most important was casting for an animated model. To create a sense of ” spontaneity “.
Manchester Lifestyle Model Rachael Gilson from Boss Model Management was a good choice. Relaxed, natural and a real team player. Even letting a flock of swans peck straight from her hands. (Not something I would be brave enough to do).
The Tulchan in house team having been shooting the Fashion Catalogue together for years. And it shows. Headed up by talented designer Susi Poole. They are so organised we steamed through the shots over the week. And stayed on schedule. The British weather only letting us down one day. ( Rainy beach day of course 🙂 And finishing the shoot with the sun setting over Lake Windermere, was the icing on the cake.
As a Lifestyle photographer fashion locations are quite a challenge. But I can’t recommend Cumbria & The Lake District highly enough. Everywhere you look is stunning. As Beatrix Potter said ” it casts you in its spell “.
